2D and 3D Modeling
In investigating and reconstructing major crashes and crime scenes, Legal Technology Consulting, LLC. has found that the
construction of a two or three dimensional model is invaluable as an investigative technique. Even in cases where an animation
does not seem required, the process of constructing a model where theory meets reality and is tested often brings to light things
that would not have been seen until it is too late. An unproven concept can be initially convincing even to experts but if your
theories are not completely tested before trial, it is likely an expert on the opposing side will find a flaw in them. This holds
especially true when the case is major one and the stakes are high.
This holds particularly true in cases based largely on witness statements or a reconstruction based on estimates and
mathematical calculations that are opinions. There are many ways for an error to go unnoticed into trial and it would be foolish
to base your case on theory alone. Frequently, the process of constructing a scene model will draw attention to areas that need
to be further investigated or clarified. It is likely that outright inconsistencies or errors that would not have been found
otherwise are drawn out immediately. Once the model is complete, it becomes the cornerstone upon which powerful arguments are built.
Once a good model is established, it is possible to produce an animation. This can usually be completed quickly and easily
with little additional cost.
While the process of model building usually helps those we represent tremendously, it always helps with the judge's or jury's
clear understand of the facts and issues involved. It allows you to focus case specifics which may not be readily apparent,
instead of spending an excessive amount of time laying out the groundwork for your case.
The effective use of computer 2D and 3D modeling make a tremendous impact in your presentation.
