Diane J. Stevens-Piganelli
As president of and a consultant with LEGAL TECHNOLOGY CONSULTING Inc., based in Phoenix, AZ, Diane provides comprehensive consulting services in a full line of complex litigation evidence management, computerized litigation support and training, and automated trial presentation.
Diane has worked in the legal field for over twenty years as a paralegal in Tucson and Phoenix, Arizona, Washington DC and Albuquerque, New Mexico. She holds a bachelor’s degree in management from University of Phoenix.
Diane’s law firm experience began with the law firm of Molloy, Jones, Trachta, Childers & Mallamo in Tucson, Arizona working in real estate. She moved to Phoenix and joined the firm of Harrison & Lerch where she began working with insurance defense cases, and the Cement Antitrust case. Ultimately, Diane worked in every area of the firm’s practice, including corporate and transactional matters, real estate, domestic relations, and commercial litigation. She also moved into the firm’s administrative management, serving as office manager and human resources director. From Phoenix, Diane relocated to the Washington, DC area where she joined the Government Contracts Section of the firm of Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson. At FFHS&J, Diane worked on Bid Protest actions and was involved in the firm’s representation of the Israeli Ministry of Defense during the Iran Contra Scandal. She was also paralegal manager of the firm’s representation of Unisys Corporation in its defense of a $350M action by Honeywell. In her management of the Unisys case, in 1988, Diane began applying computerized litigation document management to her practice. In 1991, Diane moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she brought her automated litigation management experience to the court reporting firm of Bean & Harris to expand their litigation support services. Thereafter, in 1992, Diane returned to Phoenix, AZ and joined the firm of Lewis and Roca in its commercial litigation section. At L&R, she worked on commercial litigations of various size and complexity, securities class action defenses, white-collar criminal defenses, and legal malpractice cases, always employing computerized evidence management systems. She trained attorneys, paralegals, and firm clients on the use of litigation support computer software and spoke on the topic at various firm CLE sessions. She also served on the technology committees of the firm, offering insights and recommendations for the computerization of the firm’s litigation support services and automated trial presentation options. Diane also served the Arizona Association of Professional Paralegals as two-term president and on its board of directors.
Diane’s enthusiasm for computerized litigation support and automated trial technologies has made her a recognized national expert on automated litigation support issues. She has written articles on the topic for ABA publications and has lectured nationally on a variety of legal technology topics. She has addressed audiences at the ABA TechShows, and at conferences sponsored by state and county bar associations, national paralegal associations, and technology vendors.
